What is early marriage? Early
marriage can defined as the marriage or union between two people in which one
or both them are adolescents. They joined in marriage from age 18 to 23 years
old and commonly 21 for men and 18 for the women. Getting married at a young
age is not new in our society, especially among the university students. The
phenomenon of early marriage seems to be a trend and life style among them. The
phenomenon of married while studying frequently occurs among students of public
and private higher education institutions in the country. Young couples start
thinking how to get a well-paid job to earn money for their living. So we can
make the conclusion that early marriage makes young people become grown-up and
step into real life.
There are
various factors contributing to the existence of early marriage. The most
popular factor is love. When you love someone and feel close, you’re going to
want to make love. In other word, marriage is a love goal. Everyone believe
that love is the main foundation of marriage. Many people often regret that
they did not connect their life with the first love. So, they are sure that
this love is real and take a chance and get married.
Another
factor is pregnency before marriage. Maybe the couple of students have sex
before marriage and pregnant. So, to hide their shame of their behavior the
only solution is marriage. In order to protect such dignity early marriage is
the solution to avoid the society know the real story.
The university students choose to get early
marriage because they start think about their fertility. Early marriage is also
very good because young couples have excellent fertility levels and heve no
problem getting pregnant compared to older couples. From a strictly biological
perspective, the age 18 to 23 is the best age for conceiving and carrying a
baby. To get healthy baby is increase compare older couples that cause Down
syndrome and other birth defects.
Now, I want to underline the key points of positive effect of being
early marriage.
Marriage while studying is a moral
support for the young couple (student). This is because they have a partner to
give strength to support each other and may help them concentrate to focus
their study. I can’t agree that early marriage prevent people from studying and
making career. I sure that it’s possible to combine a family life and studying.
If you have desire to get higher education, nothing can prevent you from it. According
to the newspaper report, there are a few example that prove the university
students have success in their subject although they have married.
Besides that, marriage makes people
be independent and responsible for each other. They began thinking about life
seriously and plan for their future. They have their own priorities compared
with single young people, which look more relax and enjoying their free time
sometime without any purpose. In other words, they don’t have any serious
preparation for the future because they don’t have a true responsibility as an
adult, a parents in this real life. Early marriage among university students actually
motivate them to feel the need to be more responsible and mature in their
decision-making and actions on either learning or family.
Early marriage also can reduce the
problem of baby dumping. As we know the statictics show the increses year by
year of baby dumping in Malaysia. It is very shameful that university students is
also contribute in this statistic because non moral activities with their
couple. So, early marriage is the best solution to prevent this unmoral
behavior and can create a better society and also to sanctify the sanctity of
family institution.
And now I speak about negative effect.
The first thing that comes to our
mind is they will face up with financial problem if both of them are still
study at university. The presence of children in situations where they are not
yet ready may sometimes give them problems and challenges. The scholarship or
loan study may not enough to support themselves. As a result, they have no time
to enjoy the pleasure of teenage life because they must find a side income to
support their own family. Sometimes, they have to ask for family assistance to
cover the cost of living. That’s why many people prefer to graduate from the
university or college first and only then get married and have children. It is
difficult to divide between student life and part time worker.
Students who want to get married
early must have a good preparation wheather in physical, mental or even
financial management. Some people get married even though they know little
about each other. Therefore, quarrels and misunderstanding are inevitable. Consequently,
they divorce in a very short time, such marriages are not stable. Young couples
won’t be able to solve their family problems because of lack of life
experience. Marriage is a great responsibility. You should think everything
over before getting married. When you are in love, you see everything in “blue
colour”. But real life is not just honeymoon. Soon you will face everyday
problems and understand that you are not ready for it. Misunderstanding is a
problem that can prevent you from a happy life. Usually young couples don’t
take it seriously.
In conclusion, a successful marriage
needs the support and commitment of both the husband and wife. In order to have
success in marriage, a young man or woman needs to find a suitable soul mate
because it determines the success of a marriage. The issue of marriage while
still studying should be studied and discussed in an open and mature manner by
all parties. Openness in accepting and discussing these issues can give a
positive momentum to ensure students excelling in their studies or their
marriage. Every decision made will have a big impact on students, the learning
process, families and also efforts in producing quality graduates. At the end I
